Robert L. “Bob” Thompson Passed Away on January 29th, 2009

Mr. Robert L. “Bob” Thompson age 82 years a resident of the Stringtown Road near Belington departed this life 5:10 am Thursday January 29, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born July 27, 1926 near Philippi, WV a son of the late James Otis and Iris Daugherty Thompson.
On June 14, 1952 he was united in marriage to the former Delma Wagner who survives at their home on the Stringtown Road.
Also surviving are one daughter Debora Lynn “Debbie” Ross and Husband David of Mt. Liberty, one granddaughter Stephanie Lynn Runion and Husband Chris of Philippi, One grandson Mitchell David Ross and wife Jennifer of Fairmont, two great-grandsons Logan and Nathan Ross of Fairmont, and one brother William E. Thompson of Tallmadge Ohio. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other family members and a whole host of friends.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers James Otis “June” Thompson, Gearl Waitman Thompson and Harold Hugh Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a 1945 Graduated of the Philippi High School, graduated from the Alderson-Broaddus College with a degree in teaching, and for a period of time attended the West Virginia University.
Mr. Thompson was a school teacher for the Barbour County School System for thirty years. He belonged to the Barbour County Retired Teacher’s Association and the WV Retired Teachers Association. He attended The Church of Christ and was baptized into the church on December 12, 1951.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington from 4-9 pm on Friday January 30, 2009 and again on Saturday until 2:00 pm when final rites will then be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Evangelist Mark LaValley of the Morgantown Church of Christ officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be given to Mountain Hospice Inc. 1410 Crim Ave. Belington, WV 26250 or the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK. 73123.
