Harold Hugh Thompson
Son of James Otis Thompson, Sr. and Iris Goldie (Daugherty) Thompson. He was born June 6, 1922, Barbour County. He attended the schools of Barbour County and went to high school a couple of years. He liked to play music. He worked in Washington, D.C. at a garage around 1940. He and Junior worked there at the same time. They came back to West Virginia. He also worked at the woolen mill in Philippi. He liked cars, especially the Ford cars.
Hugh went for physical examination for the Army, December 21, 1942. He got to come back home for one week. Then he was inducted into the Army, December 28, 1942. He was stationed at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. Later he went overseas to Africa and participated in several major battles in Sicily and other parts of Italy. He and Gearl were close to each other at times but never got to see each other over there. He was in the 985th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Army attachment.
When he returned home after World War II, he married Mavis Corley.

Hugh passed away on April 11th, 2002. Mavis still lives in Philippi, WV at the residence they shared together.
